Nolapesku is a workshop-based learning platform focused on front-end design. Each programme is built around assignments and real browser environments — participants ship code, receive structured feedback, and iterate. Geography has never been a barrier to enrolment.
Where Nolapesku came from — and what it still is
Nolapesku launched in 2014 as a small structured course for designers who wanted to stop relying on developers for every CSS fix. The curriculum was narrow by design: lay out a page correctly, understand the cascade, read a browser's computed style panel without panic. That focus has held.
Each workshop cohort works on assignments that are graded on output — a working component in a browser, not a slide deck summarising what was learned.
Participants join from across Canada, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The asynchronous structure means someone finishing an exercise in Kyiv can submit for review while an instructor in Penticton opens their queue the next morning. The turnaround stays predictable regardless of time zone.
How the curriculum is structured — and who shapes it
Each track follows a progression from concept to working output. The steps are sequential and the assignments are cumulative — skipping ahead produces gaps that show up in later exercises.
Reference reading
Short technical references — MDN specs, layout diagrams — scoped to that session's topic. No textbooks.
Guided exercise
A constrained task in a pre-built sandbox. Participants modify existing code to reach a defined output state.
Blind assignment
No scaffold provided. Participants build from a visual specification using only the techniques covered to that point.
Instructor review
Submitted work receives written comments within 48 hours. Revisions are part of the grade, not optional.
Ask about current intake datesAssignments are written to expose the decisions that browsers make silently — stacking context, block formatting context, specificity resolution. Understanding those makes the rest of the work faster and less guesswork.
Serafina reviews the curriculum after each cohort finishes. If a particular exercise consistently produces similar mistakes across participants, it is rewritten before the next intake. The content is not static.
